New York – The Government of New Zealand recently provided USD 4.9 million (NZ$ 8 million) in regular (core) resources to UNDP for their 2024 contributions. This timely contribution forms part of New Zealand's 2021-2024 multi-year agreement. UNDP thanks New Zealand for its continued support, particularly in these challenging times with numerous crises emerging and protracted crises multiplying, underscoring the need for sustainable development solutions.

UNDP greatly appreciates New Zealand's trust and steadfast support for core resources. These resources are critical for UNDP to continue supporting countries in their national development plans, ensuring that no one is left behind. Core funding also supports UNDP's implementation of its Strategic Plan, which is in action in some of the world's most remote areas and challenging settings, including the Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS). For example, in Vanuatu, UNDP, backed by core resources and additional earmarked resources from New Zealand, supports the Vanuatu Electoral Environment Project, which boosts electoral systems and democratic practices to strengthen political stability in the country.

UNDP remains committed to its common goal with New Zealand of tackling gender inequality and climate injustices, advocating for human rights, and promoting good governance. This flexible form of support is critical for UNDP's efforts to advance long-term sustainable development and efforts to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Core contributions also help strengthen UNDP's oversight and accountability functions and ensure the organization can continue to deliver programmes effectively, efficiently, and in accordance with the highest standards of transparency. This is evident from UNDP's consistently high rating among the most transparent international organizations. UNDP looks forward to a continued partnership with New Zealand.
